Chief Executive Officer
Colby is an entrepreneur at heart and has worked in a myriad of industries starting, growing, and building businesses since 2007. He began his career developing numerous healthcare-related businesses, including a long term care pharmacy, assisted living, memory care, skilled nursing, home health, and hospice. He later started other successful manufacturing companies that have gained great regional and national reputations.
In 2018, Colby founded Mountain Life Ventures, a private equity company with projects in the western United States, and remains the principal of the company to this day. In connection to other companies, Mountain Life Ventures is a part of, he wears the hat of principal, CEO, founder, and sits on several boards of directors.
Colby attended Brigham Young University Idaho where he worked through his Bachelors of Science in Business Management with an emphasis in Entrepreneurship.
Whenever he gets spare time, you’ll find him coaching his kid’s sports teams, serving people in his home community, fishing, hunting or recreating in the backcountry with his family and friends.
Stephen Wood is the President of Mountain Life Ventures. Stephen has a passion for making improvements every day and being in the details. He has a breadth of experience in a variety of businesses. He has developed millions in real estate, built management teams for operating businesses, led teams through challenging and successful times, and built strong businesses. Stephen has been involved in the following industries throughout his career: student housing, auto dealerships, healthcare, land development, vacation rentals, construction, and others. With a background in accounting, he understands the nuts and bolts of business – and can see how each piece fits together to create a working, fine-tuned machine!
Stephen currently lives in St. George, Utah with his wife, Amy, and 3 children. He loves to spend time with his family camping, on the lake, and hiking. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from BYU-Idaho and his MBA from Utah State University. He was raised in Rigby, Idaho where he loved playing sports.
Chief Operating Officer
Josh Curtis functions as the Chief Operating Officer for Mountain Life Ventures. He is a four-year graduate of Brigham Young University- Idaho, with another eight years of management experience in both the oil and food manufacturing industries. Josh has served in a number of leadership roles, namely Shift Manager, Training Coordinator, Process Manager, and Site Manager. He managed teams and organizations ranging from ten to 120 employees. In the oil field, he oversaw the injection of 2.4 million barrels of saltwater back into the Earth below the freshwater table. In food manufacturing, he managed a team that produced over 16 million pounds of quality potato flake that was shipped to consumers. Currently, Josh manages Blue Mountain Millwork & Cabinetry and Epoch Pest Control.
Josh has developed an operational strategy that relies on three facets:
People- Are they in the correct position? Do they have sufficient resources to accomplish their tasks? By respectfully supporting the members of your organization, they will be the foundation for consistent results.
Process- Do your employees have clear guidelines? Does your organization have operational standards? Strong and sustained processes are guardrails that keep your organization on the correct path.
Performance- Bad results? Identify the key losses and improve them through evaluating your organization’s processes. Good results? Identify key wins and review them to find even more value.
Josh is married to his high school sweetheart and they have four beautiful children. Their favorite family activity is camping, followed closely by participating in as many sports as possible! In his limited spare time, he also coaches basketball at a local high school.
Josh Peterson is the Controller for Mountain Life Ventures and has been part of the team since May 2019. He oversees and helps prepare all the accounting work for MLV and its subsidiaries, works with various partners and business managers, and helps drive the financial success of each business. Josh is also involved in the real estate and development at MLV. He works with the team to help with financial modeling, development from start to finish, leasing, and ensuring profitability on each project.
When Josh joined the Mountain Live Venture’s team, he brought 7 years of accounting and property development/management experience. He received a degree in Accounting from BYU-Idaho in 2012 and his MBA from Utah State in 2015. Josh enjoys spending time with his family in the outdoors hunting, camping, and boating.
Business Development Coordinator
Eric Ivie has worked as the Business Development Coordinator for Mountain Life Ventures since the inception of the company. He believes that hard work and dedication are two of the greatest attributes anyone can possess. After acquiring his Bachelor of Science in Physics from Idaho State University he earned his Master of Business Administration from the University of Utah, both with honors. Eric specializes in the development side of the company and is responsible for the real estate projects from idea to leased space. Eric is a powerful force in the workplace and uses his positive attitude and tireless energy to work with others towards success. Eric is inspired by his wife, Sidney, and his daughter on the way. In his free time, he enjoys his adventures outdoors from camping and fishing to scuba diving.
Brody Hansen is a staff accountant at Mountain Life Ventures. Brody Hansen earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting at Brigham Young University-Idaho and his Master of Science degree in Accounting at Western Governors University. Prior to working for Mountain Life Ventures, Brody was a Corporate Tax Auditor at the Utah State Tax Commission and completed a tax internship at Envision Healthcare.
Brody grew up on a family farm in Nyssa, Oregon, and currently resides in Sugar City, Idaho. When he is not working, Brody spends his time with his wife and family, plays guitar, or golfs.
Kelton graduated with his Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from Utah State University in December of 2019. While in school, he worked with Stander Inc. in a variety of roles including shipping and receiving, freight logistics, and inventory management. Over the last year, he completed two different internships in accounting and tax with the Idaho National Laboratory and Koch Industries. He is currently pursuing a Master of Accountancy degree through Boise State’s online program.
